A Random Girl in a Random World

ladyatheist:

I just saw that comment on a post I reblogged. I find that so funny because, well, it’s not true for everyone. Yes, some fat people do develop heath problems. That doesn’t mean everyone will.

I match that description almost perfectly and yet I have none of those traditional weight related problems. My blood pressure is on the normal/low side, I’m nowhere near being diabetic, and my cholesterol is perfect.

I guess what I’m trying to say is, can we stop it with the concern trolling already? You know nothing about a fat person’s medical record just by looking at them. The only thing you know about them is that they are fat. Being fat doesn’t automatically mean they have health problems.

^This^ Some fat people have health problems. Some fat people don’t have health problems. Some thin people have health problems. Some thin people don’t have health problems. Anybody saying, “Oh hey, you can’t be be 250lbs and healthy,” is really just saying, “Oh hey, I’m not comfortable with your size and even though that’s my issue and not yours I’m going to project it onto you so that I don’t have to actually examine why I feel this way about your body.” Ugh.

This is absolutely ridiculous. I don’t expect anything different from The Biggest Loser, but really? How about instead of trying to tell people they can’t be fat if they want to be happy we teach them no matter what size they are they deserve to be - and can be - happy?!?!?!

I love this video. It demonstrates that a person’s weight doesn’t have very much at all to do with their health.

I spent two hours in the college bookstore today putting notes in magazines like Cosmo and Bazaar, pointing out the racism, sexism, and fat-phobia in their articles.

And on the back of the notes, I wrote the link to our grrrlVirus group. I hope people notice and get something out of it.

That’s awesome!
