I was reading the FAQs on the 2012 Student Loan Forgiveness Act on Hansen Clarke’s website, and these two points stuck out:

• Would I still be eligible to enroll if my loans are in default?

Yes.  Unlike the federal government’s program of Income Based Repayment (IBR), there is no requirement for the borrower to be current on his or her loans in order to qualify for enrollment in the new 10/10 program.

• What if I’ve already paid the equivalent of 10% of my discretionary income for at least 10 years?

Under the terms of this bill, those who have already paid the equivalent of at least 10% of their discretionary income over the prior 10 years totaling 120 payments would immediately qualify for forgiveness upon passage of the bill.

Guys, if this bill actually passes it would be huge. HUGE. I have no idea what its chances are, but this bill would have such an immediate and pervasive impact on people’s lives and the economy I just don’t understand why every democrat and non-asshat republican isn’t rallying behind it RIGHT NOW.

there are a LOT of butthurt white people in Queens who are heated about brown immigrants “taking over” areas traditionally associated with white Euro immigrants. There was an article in the Times a while back about a Key Food closing in Flushing (FLUSHING!!!!) and an Asian supermarket opening in the same space and oh my god the white tears flowed. like “WHERE WILL WE GET OUR PRECIOUS WHITE PEOPLE FOOD?!” I lol’d. Mainly cause I was all “wait there’s still white people in Flushing? When there isn’t a Mets game?”

I mean you’d think New York Crackerdom would be mostly confined to Staten Island but Queens is a hotbed for it in certain places, lol.
